Nicolas Ruflin

About Me

Nicolas is a passionate, charismatic and innovative technology entrepreneur. As Managing Partner at Centralway, a full-fledged company builder targeting the financial sector, he is responsible for developing and guiding its research and development. Nicolas is highly interested in distributed systems, search engines and all innovation in the area of technology. He strongly believes that disruptive innovations in the web area (including mobile) will change entire markets and he enjoys advancing and being part of that change.

At the age of 16, Nicolas started his first tech company and developed customized web solutions for SME and large companies. Later, Nicolas co-founded several technology startups. In 2008, he helped to bootstrap a technology startup in Peru’s finance and e-commerce sector, where he gained a profound understanding of the South American market and a refined awareness of cultural specificities. Afterwards, he went to Beijing, China, where he further developed his own ideas. He consulted various startups and SMEs in the area of distributed databases and search in Europe and the U.S.

In 2010, Nicolas received his Master’s degree in Computer Science at the University of Basel, Switzerland. Based on his master thesis on “Storing and Analyzing Social Data” he published an academic article and presented it at the ACM Sigmod conference 2011 in Greece.

As a team player as well as a charismatic leading personality, Nicolas has always been looking for challenges - at work as well as for leisure. For several years, he was part of one of Switzerland’s top handball leagues, both as a player and as a coach. He is well known for starting and contributing his expertise in various open source projects and enjoys the vibrancy and collegiality of the open source field. Moreover, Nicolas contributes to the tech community by regularly organizing tech events and by sharing his knowledge as a speaker at various conferences.
